Based in Karlstad, Sweden, I navigate the intersections of experimental filmmaking, film education, and narrative development. My journey in film began with an MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, launching a career that would span continents and bridge cultural perspectives in both education and creative practice.
For fifteen years (2003-2015), I served as Professor of Film Theory and Practice at Karlstad University's Faculty of Visual Culture and FilmDuring this time, I developed and taught comprehensive courses in filmmaking, screenwriting, documentary production, animation, and editing. At the Molkom Folkhögskolan Film School I also lead film and story courses that validate my approach to combining theoretical understanding with filmmaking practice.
My own creative work has maintained momentum alongside my teaching practice. My experimental film "Czar of Make Believe" received Best Experimental Film at RIFF USA 2001, among other accolades. This ongoing creative practice has been crucial in keeping my teaching current and relevant, allowing me to bring fresh perspectives and contemporary techniques into the classroom.
As founder of the Story Development Lab "Cinemahead", I've worked to create bridges between traditional narrative approaches and emerging storytelling technologies. This lab has become a hub for exploring new possibilities in film language and narrative structure, while maintaining strong connections to classical storytelling traditions.
My teaching philosophy emphasizes the importance of hands-on learning and critical thinking. In my current workshops, we explore everything from traditional drama to experimental approaches, always with an eye toward professional preparation. I believe in creating an inclusive classroom environment that encourages personal growth while building practical foundations for success in the industry.
Currently, I'm focusing on developing new collaborative projects that bridge international film communities. Through my workshop series and mentoring program, I continue to work with emerging filmmakers while maintaining my own creative practice. I'm particularly interested in projects that explore the intersection of traditional storytelling and new media technologies.
